Advanced Tapes
Available from HPI
We are proud to offer SUM (Systems Unit Method) Advanced
Tapes to those desiring to enhance their medical transcription skills. Advanced
studies include hospital dictation, such as operative reports, diagnostic procedures,
discharge summaries, radiology, and pathology dictation. You should plan on spending 40-80
hours on each unit.
Each advanced unit contains four hours of authentic
physician dictation (except for Radiology, which has three) and transcript keys (by which
you check your progress). Please call us at 865-483-2332 if you have any questions.
Rental Plan!
A three-month rental on each unit is
available for $50, plus a $100 deposit and $3.90 shipping. You may rent one unit
at a time. Your deposit will be refunded when you return all materials in good condition
within three months. NOTE: If you plan to go through more than one of the advanced
tape sets, we will be happy to roll over your deposit from one to the next.

Cardiology The SUM
Cardiology
Transcription Unit has four hours of authentic cardiology dictation, including H&Ps,
discharge summaries, operative reports, and more. Among the 58 reports is dictation on
electrocardiograms, cardiac bypass, Doppler studies, arteriosclerosis, catheterizations,
and treadmill tests.
Gastrointestinal
The SUM GI Transcription Unit contains four hours
of authentic physician dictation, including H&Ps, discharge summaries, and operative
reports. Among the 65 reports is dictation on laparotomy, hernia repair, cholecystectomy,
appendectomy, pancreatic tumor, colon carcinoma, esophageal varices, and upper endoscopy.
Orthopedic
The SUM Orthopedic Transcription Unit has four
hours of authentic orthopedic dictation, including H&Ps, discharge summaries,
operative reports, and more.

Among the 54 reports
included is dictation on herniated cervical disk, carpal tunnel syndrome, torn rotator
cuff, Ilizarov leg lengthening, arthroscopy, hip replacement, Luque rod insertion, and
fractures.Pathology
The Pathology Transcription Unit has four hours of
authentic physician dictation (110 reports), including 1.5 hours of gross and microscopic
autopsy dictation and 2.5 hours of gross and microscopic descriptions of tissue specimens.
Radiology
The Radiology Transcription Unit contains three hours of
authentic dictation by radiologists and transcript answer keys of all dictation, with
footnotes for alternative acceptable transcription. Introductory articles offer guidelines
for radiology transcription. The 138 reports are sequenced by body system to maximize
learning and include bones and soft tissues, CAT and MRI scans, interventional radiology,
mammography, nuclear medicine, and contrast media studies.
