Pat Bowen, CMT, Program Director and Instructor, has been a medical transcriptionist for 48 years and currently is employed by InterPro/Prolease as a part-time editor and proofreader. Bowen began transcribing in 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio, in the radiology department of a large hospital conglomerate.   From there, she advanced to working in various settings including private practice, transcription services, hospitals, owning 3 businesses. She also has taught medical transcription in college and business settings. Bowen joined AAMT in 1981 and became involved in the association not only at the chapter and state level but the national level as well. She served in various capacities in the state of Florida, culminating as President of the Florida State Association in 1989. She served on the national board of directors of AAMT from 1982-1984. After she moved to California to teach at California College for Health Sciences (where she obtained an AA degree in Medical Transcription), she became involved in the San Diego Chapter as well as the state association. She served as president of the San Diego Chapter two times and was the California State Cert Connector for 2 years in 2000. She earned the “Educator of the Year” award in 1995 from AAMT for her teaching efforts in the medical transcription industry. She also has spent time training offshore in India. She continues her commitment to the profession with speaking engagements and serving as a member of AAMT’s Exam Development Team.  She currently resides in Oak Ridge, TN, managing MT Monthly and working part-time. She is the cert connector for the East Tennessee Chapter of AAMT.
